.....My child was only two years and three months old when I put her on your program. My neighbors and friends laughed at me and said I was just a crazy lady. But I know that certain parts of our culture is difficult to overcome and some people are biased because of it. That places my child in a precarious position as she grows up. I wanted to prove her intelligence and give her a better chance in life but I didn't want to force or frustrate her. She LOVED your program and within two months she was singing songs about the Alphabet letters and the vowels! She knew most of them when she saw them on a chart. Now she has just turned three and she recognizes short three letter words by the sounds of the letters. Her brothers, both a few years older, are astounded at her progress and are asking me why didn't I do more for them? It has encouraged my sons to try harder in school and their grades are improving. Thank you for taking the time to make your phonics course available and thank you for caring!....

.....I would like to know more about your phonics classes in the Internet so I can teach my little brother....

......I am 50 years old. English is my second language. I am from Spain and I would like to enroll myselt in your phonics classes on the Internet.

......I am interested in learning about how to teach phonics to children. Presently I am concerned about my nieces and nephews who are learning to "not read" with the whole language method.

Many times we are able to respond to some of the testimonies we receive by adding our comments inside the sender's quoted email. The next email is a good example:

>Dear Bill and Janae,
> >I just wanted to let you know that we are very excited to start your >program. I started it today with my 3 students in my lowest class.
Great!!! These students have nowhere to go but UP!
We are in >a public school setting and it has been very difficult for Marcus, Jose >and Maria due to their lack of English skills.
But think of how much more advanced they are than their peers in the language they hear in their homes. We have used this fact to encourage some students who never realized that they were already ahead of their classmates in some pretty special ways.
Since they are middle school >level students, I was fearful that they would not want to be involved in the >activities because they would think that they were "stupid".
Were you never a child? I was raised by a father who thought when I was born that I was already enlisted in the US Navy. I never was able to taste of "just being silly and having fun". I was always told what to do and how to do it. No kidding around. Yes, it was a miserable childhood. But thank the Lord it all worked out for the best. Let those three kids enjoy learning for a chance. For once they don't need to think that everything has to be a difficult challenge. Let's pray that they can find fun ways to approach other subjects.
Much to my >surprise... they were singing and laughing as we were doing the alphabet to >the tune of Hokey Pokey.
It works!!! Who cares if it is not in the curriculum for a school district? For once the kids are learning and having fun. Do it until they drop. And don't just use our ideas with the Hokey Pokey, insert anything you think will work and RUN with it!
I think that since I am willing to be silly in >front of them, they are willing to participate.
Are you trying to tell us that before this you were not silly and down to the kids' levels when working in the classroom? Boy, the results are much better and longer-lasting when they think you are one of them. And I will bet you really enjoyed participating with them. There are lots of games and activities further on in Step One that will please those kids. And kids who already know much of the material will want to join in the fun of learning. Let them! They all can use the reinforcement.
I will keep you updated as >we go through the steps of the program. Thanks again!
>You are most welcome. Your report is very uplifting to us during some very difficult days. We would welcome your prayers for us especially during this next three week period.
>A Devoted Teacher (name withheld)
> >P.S. Is this the correct e-mail address to send our progress reports? There >have been quite a few addresses... it is hard to keep them all straight!
We are happy to accept your progress reports whenever and wherever you send them. Most of our email addresses are scheduled to come to our one main email box.
> >Also - even though I am in a public school, I did want to tell you that I am >a Christian and I thank God for this wonderful ministry that He has called >you to develop! God bless you both!
We all know that HE is the only reason any of this is done. If you knew us personally, you would know that we could never put something like this together and offer it for free. The sacrifices have been constant since we started the live classes in 1994. Then when we went to the Internet in '97, it just exploded. It seems to draw mostly people who would not have an alternative way to help others learn to read correctly. And we have been down to the wire to shut it down dozens of times. We have several times when we even had to pack up our computers and clothes knowing we had to move out of our apartment to our car. And at the very last second or even later, a phone rang or a letter came or there was a knock at the door. Then we just hung in for another 30 days and prayed for a door to open so we would not have to tell our many, many students worldwide that we could no longer offer them the help they were seeking. God is awesome!!! Like the Don Moen song says, "God will make a way where there seems to be no way". That has been our life for the past 15 years.

God has given you a very special calling in helping these three children. Remember, how they perform after they have studied will have a big effect on dozens of adults and other children in their immediate families and neighborhoods. Don't be surprised if they come to you asking you to help their uncle or aunt or Mom or Dad to learn to read. As you pray and have fun with these precious kids, God will show you new paths and some of the most rewarding opportunities you have ever known. We shall indeed remember you in our prayers. Blessings to you, Bill and Janae

.....The girls are age 2 and 5. I realize that age two may seem young. However, this child has been able to follow the stories and identify Mama and baby letters. The older child could move at a faster pace, but I do not want to go too fast for the younger child. Do you have any suggestions on how to help go at a pace that is good for both children? I have been asking the older child to help her younger sister learn. This keeps her involved and makes her feel very important. She is a great assistant.

...My daughter is in 1st. grade and was doing well. I've worked with her on a program called reader rabbit. AT this time Ive not gotten the next step because it's $65.00. I throught she was doing well, I've keep in touch with her teacher often . Then one day I got a note home saying that they were putting her in a program called SOAR for kids who had problems with reading, the teacher at that never let me know that my daughter had started having problems. I'm hoping this will help, because I can't afford the new program

AND THEN THERE IS A LETTER LIKE THIS
THAT JUST BREAKS OUR HEARTS

...Oh the little boy I was going to help also, his mother wouldn't bring him by, so I thought I would help him by giving her the information over the phone but she's not willing at this time to put the time into it....
